Snakes! Why did it have to be snakes?

Raiders of the Lost Ark has to be one of the classic movies of all times. The movie is action packed and has a swash buckling hero in Indiana Jones.  There are so many classic lines and scenes from this movie.  One of my favorite lines:  Why did it have to be snakes?  Indiana Jones, the hero, had a problem.  Indiana Jones was afraid of snakes!

Like many movies of today, Raiders of the Lost Ark received lots of hype and publicity before its release.  Time magazine did a full spread on Raiders of the Lost Ark and its use of 7,500 snakes!  Before the movie was released I had read the Time article, saw the movie trailers and listened to the hype.  When my girlfriends and me went to see the movie, I went with full knowledge of "the snake scene."  Like Indiana Jones I also have a problem with snakes.  When it was time for the snake scene, one of my girlfriends knowing my fear of snakes was wise enough and fast enough to take the soft drink from my hand before I went "into full Betty snake mode" and gave everyone a soft drink bath.  She was not fast enough to get both the soft drink and popcorn.  At sight of the first snake scene, I threw my popcorn ten feet in the air and everyone sitting within a twenty feet radius thought it was snowing popcorn!  When the snake scene ended my girlfriend leaned over and said "you can come out from under the seat now, the snake scene is over."

I love Adam and Eve samplers!  I love the story of Adam and Eve.  My problem:  one of the main characters in the story of Adam and Eve is the snake.  One of the main motifs, one of the most important motifs in an Adam and Eve sampler is the snake.  See my problem.  I have dozens of Adam and Eve samplers, mostly unstitched.  It's the snake!

When I first saw the sampler, An All Was For An Appil, I fell in love with this sampler.  It was an Adam and Eve, the colors were beautiful, it was big and dense and the motifs!  So, I have once again found my big girl britches, faced my fear and stitched An All Was For An Appil.  Remember when I told everyone, the snake would be the last thing I stitched on the sampler.

Stay tuned for the rest of the sampler and the rest of the snake fear story.

  5. You are a tease! Can't wait to see the whole thing - it's a spectacular sampler and one you should be quite proud of. That snake is a rather large fellow with big eyes but he almost looks friendly. Almost.
