At the last Homespun Gathering reunion, Shirley and Lori were working on their unfinished projects.  They chose twelve projects and assigned a number to it and once a month they draw a number and work on that project.  Sounded like a good idea and I thought I might give it a try.

Whew!  Thank goodness my 2015 Christmas ornament is stitched and finished.  Last year at the Beat the Heat event I purchased some velveteen   The velveteen combined with some overdyed R & R cinnamon chenille made the perfect match for the ornament.

Grandmother Bessie was one of five sisters and La D Da has had some great releases for needlerolls and needle books.  The Hog Wild Blue one is for Grandmother Bessie (she had blue eyes) the needle roll on the left is for Sister Maggie and the basket weave needle book is for Sister Kittie.

Stitching those little X's was a challenge.  Stacy's book, My Name is Lydia gave some great directions for stitching the X's.  My X's are far from perfect and definitely have the primitive look--practice makes perfect, time to get out my doodle cloth and practice, practice, practice.

Milk paint and elbow grease transform a paper machie box into another nesting box.  The design will be mounted on top of the box with some twisted cord.

I found a carrier at The Olde Mercantile in Clarksville and am going to line the bottom of  the carrier with  Whaling Ship.  Hmm, maybe a whale scissors fob would be a good addition.  (The Primitive Hare just released one which I think might work.)  Or a long pincushion with an anchor, a mermaid and octopus.

So nice to complete projects!  There are more in the works which I hope to complete before the August gathering. 

Southern Festival of Books

 

 

Yes, its that time of year again!  The Humanities of Tennessee has announced the authors for the Southern Festival of Books. 

 

Who's on my list?  Kimberly Belle, The Last Breath, Matthew Guinn, The Resurrectionist. Tim Johnson, Irish Girl, Bridget Lancaster, Cook's Country, Robert Morgan, Gap Creek, and Rebecca Wells, Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisters.  With more than 250 authors scheduled for the event it will be difficult to choose which author to hear.

About those Hexies

It's hot!  The summer heat is driving me indoors!  This is Deb's hexagon Grandmother's flower garden.  The finished pieces are 1".  With the hot, hot weather, I have returned to my hexagon project.  There is something very relaxing about hand sewing.  Am making progress on my first star, I will reveal the first star soon.

Bloom Days

Whew!  It has been hot with lots of humidity!

 



 

So far, the flowers have been loving it.

 





In spite of the cold winter, the daylilies prove themselves to be dependable.

The rains bring a mixed bag--good for the flowers and good for the weeds.  The mosquito's have been vicious.

When I haven't been pulling weeds, I have been working on completing and finishing projects.  

I keep telling myself to enjoy the summer because I could be complaining about the cold temps snow and ice.  We humans are never satisfied!

Fourth of July Weekend

Three day weekends, aren't they great?  We went to a baseball game--the Sounds won!

The game took an unusual turn when the home plate umpire was struck in the forearm.  Ouch!  Poor fellow, he immediately when to his knees.  This is a discussion between the team managers and remaining umpires on how to proceed with the game one umpire short.

The mascot was dressed in his patriotic Uncle Sam outfit.

There was lots of rain on the Fourth, but it did not keep the neighbors from celebrating.  There were bombs bursting in air in the wee hours of the night/morning.

Thank goodness Miss Callie Mae was unaffected by all the noise made by the fireworks.

With an extra day and all the rain, I took advantage and finished Currants, Coxcomb and Rose by The Goode Huswife.  

Three days weekend, they are great!
